From the Called to Love Podcast with James Levisee and Brian Knoedl

So many people feel stuck in their spiritual walk. They sit in church, volunteer, and know all the right words to say—but inside, they’re not moving forward. This episode of the Called to Love Podcast digs into why that happens and how we can find freedom.

When Faith Becomes Routine

It’s easy to look the part without truly living it. Some go to church for years, even serve, yet never experience transformation. They may know Scripture or admire their pastor and worship team, but real growth isn’t showing up in their lives:contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}.

The Missing Ingredient: The Holy Spirit

Jesus reminds us in John 14 that we are no longer servants but friends—and that we are appointed to bear fruit that lasts. That kind of life can only happen when we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Without Him, faith becomes routine instead of life-changing.

Why We Feel Stuck

Sometimes being “stuck” looks like self-sabotage. We make resolutions, only to abandon them when things get hard. Other times, we hold onto past hurts, or we’re waiting for God to use us in some platform or position—forgetting that He wants to use us in everyday relationships.

The Power of Mentorship

No one grows alone. Real mentors—those without hidden agendas—model what it looks like to walk with God. When you see someone living with consistency, joy, and purpose, it stands out. It creates a hunger to know, “What makes them different?”

Breaking Through Hurt and Distrust

Many believers hesitate to trust others because of church hurt or disappointment. But God still calls us to be instruments of healing. He wants us to walk with people, not just hand out tracts and move on. Real relationships, fueled by love, break through walls of distrust.

The Church’s Role

The church is vital, especially for new believers—it provides community, identity, and an introduction to Jesus. But growth happens best in smaller, authentic settings: small groups, one-on-one discipleship, and friendships where confession, prayer, and encouragement can flourish.

Steps to Move Forward

  • Yield to the Spirit: Make space daily for prayer and Scripture, asking the Holy Spirit to lead you.
  • Find real relationships: Seek out mentors or peers who model authentic faith without hidden agendas.
  • Join community: Move beyond Sunday services—commit to a small group or deeper friendships.
  • Be available: Let God use you to reach those who feel forgotten or stuck.

Ultimately, growth comes from intimacy with the Father and meaningful relationships with others. When we walk in both, we find ourselves moving forward in joy and freedom.

Until next time, may you find peace and love—and remember: you are called to love.
