The Best Place to Get Advice... The Secret Place
From the Called to Love Podcast with James Levisee and Brian Knoedl
The Secret Place: Where Real Relationship With God Begins
Many believers pray, read Scripture, and attend church services—but miss the life-changing practice of the secret place. In this episode of the Called to Love Podcast, James and Brian share how intimacy with God in private transforms decision-making, provides wisdom, and sustains a faith that’s real in daily life.
Why We Need More Than Advice
We often run to friends, social media, or even Google for advice, but fail to ask God directly. Scripture tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. Yet too often, prayer becomes our last resort instead of our first step.
Discovering the Secret Place
Jesus Himself taught, “When you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen.” The secret place isn’t about formulas—it’s about intimacy. It’s the place where we listen, not just talk. Where God’s voice becomes clearer than our doubts and distractions.
Listening Instead of Talking
Too often, prayer is a one-way conversation. Like children repeating what God already knows, we pour out our problems but rarely pause to listen. In the secret place, we shift from “God, here’s what I need” to “Father, what’s on Your heart?” That’s where transformation begins.
Why Few Find It
The secret place is compared to a hidden fishing spot—hard to find, rarely crowded, but worth the journey. Just as a sacred fishing hole stays protected by those who discover it, intimacy with God feels hidden until you intentionally seek it. Few will find it, but those who do are richly rewarded.
The Fruit of the Secret Place
Time with God in private produces wisdom, peace, and ideas that can’t come from our own strength. It cultivates the fruits of the Spirit and carries into everyday decisions, relationships, and ministry. The residue of His presence becomes evident to others.
Steps Toward Living From the Secret Place
- Make space daily: Set aside uninterrupted time to sit in God’s presence.
- Listen first: Ask what’s on God’s heart before sharing your requests.
- Stay consistent: Treat the secret place like your most important appointment.
- Value intimacy over information: Don’t just study about God—spend time with Him.
- Let it overflow: Carry what God gives you privately into your relationships and decisions.
Until next time, may you find peace and love—and always remember: you are called to love.
